Incoterms 2020
Who pays for what
The Incoterm on your sales contract decides where the seller's cost and risk end. These are the ones Kolkata exporters use most.
| Term | Seller arranges | Risk passes to buyer | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| EXW | Nothing beyond making goods available at the factory | At the seller's premises | Buyers with their own forwarder in India |
| FCA | Export clearance and delivery to the carrier | When handed to the carrier | Containerised cargo; safer than FOB for FCL |
| FOB | Export clearance, loading on vessel at Kolkata / Haldia | Once on board the vessel | Bulk and break-bulk; still common for FCL |
| CFR | FOB plus ocean freight to the destination port | Once on board at origin | Exporters who get better freight rates than the buyer |
| CIF | CFR plus minimum marine insurance | Once on board at origin | Letters of credit that ask for insurance |
| DAP | Delivery to the named place, not import-cleared | At the named destination | Nepal and Bhutan door deliveries |
| DDP | Everything, including import duty | At the named destination | Sellers who know the destination rules well |
